The perennially punchless Seattle Mariners have been showing a lot more pop this season. Seattle has the ninth-most homers in MLB. Seattle's 44 road homers are fourth best in MLB. Seattle's 29 home longballs rank 18th, but Seattle was 27th at home in 2012, before they moved the fences in this season.
Raul Ibanez, OF - 13 homers
Ibanez had 19 dingers in 2012 while with the Yankees, but 14 of them came at homer-happy Yankee Stadium. Ibanez also just turned 41. But not only does he have 13 home runs in 45 games, Ibanez has hit more homers at home (8) than on the road (5).The lefthanded Ibanez has even hit four dingers off of lefties after hitting all 19 of his 2012 longballs off of righties.
Michael Morse, OF - 11
Morse, now 31, has only had one full MLB season, which came in 2011 when he hit 31 homers for Washington. Morse has five homers at home vs. six on the road. The righthanded Morse also has five home runs against lefties, along with a .997 OPS, vs. a .626 mark against righties. A quad injury kept Morse sidelined for several games in late May and early June.
Jason Bay, OF - 8
Bay is an even bigger surprise than Ibanez. The Mets ate $21 million in salary still owed Bay when they cut him loose after the 2012 season. After hitting 36 homers with the Red Sox in 2009, Bay hit just 26 homers during his three years with the Mets. His eight homers match his entire 2012 total. Bay's 2013 homers are equally split between home and road as well as between lefty and righty pitchers. While Bay's batting average is much improved over 2012's .165, it is still only .226.
Kyle Seager, 3B - 8
Seager hit 20 home runs in 2012 with 86 RBI, 13 steals and a .259 batting average. 15 of his 20 came on the road. This season, Seager has 30 RBI to go with his eight dingers. Seager's average is up to .289, but he only has two steals. He has hit six of his homers on the road. The lefthanded Seager has a .916 OPS against righties vs. .667 against lefties. Seager is also eligible at 2B in some leagues.
Kendrys Morales , 1B - 8
Morales hit 34 homers with the Angels in 2009 before suffering a serious ankle injury in May 2010 that kept him sidelined until 2012, when he hit 22 home runs. Traded to Seattle this past offseason, Morales has hit six of his homers on the road. He is batting .292 with 35 RBI. Morales was dealing with back issues in early June.
